Tech Problem: Videos don't run smoothly in Supreme Commander.

When I first boot the game Supreme Commander, the videos run smoothly and without problems. However, after about 5 minutes of runtime, they become choppy and desynced from the audio. This wouldn't be a problem if it were not for the inane about of in-game video cutscenes this game has. Whenever these appear, the gameplay begins stuttering and is unplayable for the duration of the video. What could be the cause of this, and how can I fix it? Considering I'm getting 45-50 FPS even in graphically intense gameplay, and 5-10 in the same conditions with the video displayed, it's pretty bad.

My system:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForece 7600 GT (256MB)
Windows XP Home SP2

SupCom System Requirements
1.8 GHz processor
512 MB RAM
128 MB video RAM

I have already tried deleting the folder containing the videos to see if it would just skip them, but it causes the game to crash any time it attempts to access the videos. The movies are labeled as .sfd (??) files, I don't know what they actually are. I've run the game with min settings, max settings, it runs the same regardless. I tried give the app high priority from task manager to no avail. Should I download some additional codecs or some shit?

Is there anything else I could try to see if it would alleviate this problem?

I suppose you could try and completely reinstall the game. Is it a legit copy?

I've already reinstalled once (unrelated) and the problem persists. Yes it is a legitimate copy, but I couldn't find anything on either Microsoft's knowledge base about a similar issue of Gas Powered Game's tech thingy. "Please ensure you have the latest drivers" blah blah blah.

Just sounds like your video driver isn't up to par for the game to run decent. Have you tried updating the video drivers to see if that did any good?

Then fuck, I don't know. Maybe your video card isn't up to par. Or perhaps the drivers are dated.

I <3 Supreme Commander. And try updating your Video Driver. Also asking this on the Supreme Commander Forum will yield better results.

Have you run the core optimiser? Also...

that GPU really doesn't cut the mustard. I occasionally get lag with my 8800GTS during cutscenes, since fog of war is removed, massively increasing the RAM needed.
