what happens if we miss 1 pill? like we lost the pill and can't take it at all, even if it's late.  i rarely have sex so that's not really a problem, but i still don't want to mess everything up.

OP, pills are full of hormones, if you miss one, continue taking it the following day and forget the missed one.. but do not have unprotected sex for about a month to get the cycle back on track

Just skip that day and keep taking the pill the way you usually would. Whenever you have sex make sure to use a condom as double protection for the next month. afterwards you should have the usual 99,9 % coverage.
