Atheism is the lack of belief in gods. Most intelligent atheists recognize that it is logically indefensible to assert that there is no god, just as one cannot justify belief in god with pure logic.

So the definition is wrong? (Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Atheists, I'm just not sure I'm understanding what you are trying to say)

Very subtly, yes. The dictionary tends to do an imperfect job of defining religious terms.

So, Atheists don't believe there is/are no God/gods?

Atheists can believe that there is no god. Commonly the distinction is drawn along these lines:

Hard/ active atheism: active disbelief in god; "there is no god."

Soft/ passive atheism: lack of belief in god; "I don't know whether or not there is a god"/ "it seems most/ highly likely that there is no god."

    Prove it.

   prove what

  Prove that atheists are right.

  what is there to prove?

If they are right about something (IE there being no god) then there has to be some sort of proof to suggest that.

You act like atheism is the belief that there is no god. As it isn't, you don't really have much of a point.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1C1GGLS_enUS291US303&q=define:atheism&btnG=Search

Its the belief that no god exists, or the flat out refusal of theism. There would be no logical way to reject theism, but believe there is a god.

If you are trying to find some half way point, that would be Agnosticism. Not atheism.

Agnosticism isn't a half-way point; it answers an entirely different question. Do you believe in god breaks down atheist/ theist, do you believe that we can know whether or not there is a god breaks down whether or not one is agnostic. Every agnostic is also a theist or atheist.

Atheism is a lack of belief. Obviously active disbelief falls under this category, but it doesn't comprise the entirety of it. Note the two definitions below the first on your link.

Isn't the second agnosticism?

Isn't the second agnosticism?

A lot of people think so. The common perception is that agnosticism is an answer to the question "is there a god?", when in reality it addresses the question "can you/ anyone know if there is a god?". Agnosticism is the (logical) belief that we can't know for sure whether or not there is a god.

"I don't know if there is a god" is agnosticism if you understand the statement to mean "I do not have the capacity to conclude with absolute certainty (know) that there is/ is not a god." As most people understand it ("I'm on the fence about whether or not I personally believe in god") that statement is atheism because it expresses a lack of belief in god (someone who doesn't know if there is a god or not doesn't have belief in a god).

I can see what you are saying, however, its still Agnostic Atheism.

I can see why you would put it in the Atheism category, but its technically still in the middle of the spectrum, just slightly off to the atheistic side.

The technical name for what you have described is indeed Agnostic Atheism. So you are right, but so are we. Its easy to see how confusion would be generated.

That gets so into the gray areas, though, that it just becomes an argument of semantics. I'm just talking about straight up, cut and dry, as general as you can get Atheism and agnosticism.

Stop trying to redefine words just because you can't clearly define your beliefs.

All i know is i see far more people being killed in the name of a religion. .

In favor of what?

to be fair, most of the time the leaders of the time used God as a means to get their people behind them. Would you rather be on the side god is

You can't prove that, so it's pointless to try and force it on someone.
