How does that not contribute?  They failed at posting the link, it's DTRM, it applies plenty.

If I deleted everything I found personally annoying, I'm fairly sure all YouTube topics would be gone.

Yeah.
Welllll you can take that up with someone else but my official stance is that "fail" should only be deleted if it's TOTALLY irrelevant to everything or if it's in a support forum.

Not that my offcial stance holds much weight.  But still.

It does contribute though.  Hell, it could even contribute IF the link worked.

It's basically just a way to explain your feelings.  If someone posted a YouTube link that they claimed was funny, and someone said "Fail.", it would still be considered contributive.

If it is not in a support topic, In my opinion we should not even be having this conversation.

Support leaders should only be hiding posts that are grossly violating a guideline. not anything they find questionable.

I agree about responses that say "fail" in response to a serious topic. However in response to a random topic, although I do consider it arrogant, it's not really worthy of deletion as the whole topic is of that caliber. Let the mods deal with the latter. Use the report function if it peeves you like it does me.

I guess the judgment call that we have to make is whether it is random or serious.

I'd suggest not using the hide function on your own topics, and again, to instead use the report function, admitting to a possible bias.

Keep in mind that we were recently contacted to be more lenient with the hide function. Be careful, I would not like to lose that privilege/responsibility!

side conversations loosely pertaining to the topic are okay because thats part of dtrm's atmosphere but just saying 'fail' is utterly useless and repetitive

I think you need to take another look at DTRM and then decide if you stand by that statement.

Half of it is overused 4chan memes.

If someone posts a topic, and they seem to mess up the tags of a youtube video, having 2 pages of posts that say 'fail' basically ruin the topic.  More than likely their op will be fixed, and the topic will be ruined because it is composed of all non-contributive posts.  In those type of cases I think they should be trashed.
