Some ppl keep insisting that ALL whites in the 19th century considered blacks as not human so therefore whatever whites did to blacks was justified.

Do you agree with that?

There is no way of knowing if "ALL" whites were racist.  In fact, it's almost impossible that all of them were.
A great many, probably, but not "ALL".

No, I believe there were quite a few who saw them as more than that. In fact, quite a few people wrote about befriending blacks at that point in time... I'm trying to remember names of books, but they've escaped me. =(
