If he never came back, I bet the mods who have access to the server would try to save it by promoting a new admin and copying the data so when he would theoretically stop paying for the server, we could upload it to a new one and have someone step up to take his position.

That's all theorhetical.  He would never actually just leave with no instruction or direction permanently.  He would shut it down and send us on our way if he wanted to end it end it, or find someone to take their place.
