Because the Bible dictates that only God is master of life and death. Medical Science isn't the only way to prolong your life, drinking more water as a result could prolong your life, it's when you try to cut it short, suicide and all that. Life is precious and should be honored.

If someone is run over, or has cancer, and would die without medical treatment, why do we have a right to play God to a situation (whilst unfortunate) would not survive without complicated or advanced procedures, whereas we deny people who are going to die anyway, may or may not have humanist ideals or religious beliefs and want to die with dignity to do just that.

To be honest, I find the whole thing about using expensive treatments to give people a few months to a year of life stupid, when you could instead use the money to give grief counselling.

 prolonging a life that is day to day pain and suffering  
 that is inhumane
