I am reading a chapter in a text book right now about the 5 most significant events of the 20th century in terms of church history.

I am curious as to what you guys might view as the most significant events in the last 100 years, and what you think that event might impact in the future.

I will share what the authors are later, as well as some of mine, but I am curious what you guys think...

A few disclaimers:

I am speaking of the Christian church universal, both protestant and catholic and orthodox. If you would like to share an event that is from a different faith community, feel free, but know that it does not relate directly to the topic at hand.

Please do not waste my time and yours by saying, I hate___ even if you do not like christianity/are not a christian you can have an opinion on significant things that have happened.

Those stupid new sins that came in like "Those with great affluence should give" or something like that, cause the Catholic church is one of the richest int he world...

The acceptance of gay clergy is a good one.  That's certainly one of the most significant changes.  The pedophile priest scandal, not because it was the pandemic people thought it was, but for the press that resulted from it.  The rise of Pentecostalism probably ranks up there.  Vatican II is obviously pretty important as well.  Those might be the top four.

The birth (or rise in influence) of modern Fundamentalism is a pretty huge one. And the mediafication (I know it's not a word, I don't care) of Christianity, which could probably be broken into several aspects (televangelism, the crazy trials of the early 20th century, etc.). I don't want to guess at the author's (or your) opinions, and I don't know that those would really be top 5, but I think they're certainly important enough to warrant a mention.
