What is a good gun for target shooting?

Edit preferably both a rifle and a handgun, although I won't be allowed to get the handgun for several months.

If you've never really shot one before pick up a .22. There small and easy to use. Very little kick.

If you want something a little bigger get a 30-30. Bit bigger but still small kick. Good gun to just go shoot and have fun with.
