Try to avoid anything with rebuilt transmissions or engines. Don't get anything that was wrecked. Nothing with too many miles.

It's mostly common sense.

Edit: Avoid rust as much as you can.

Try to avoid anything with rebuilt transmissions or engines..

The opposite, a rebuilt engine or trans. is better than just an old one.

Check for white gooey stuff under the oil filler cap, rust in the wheel arches, make sure all interior equipment works properly, take it for a drive and see it there are any wobbles, creaks or anything that doesn't feel right on the move, uneven tyre wear, check there isn't a knocking noise when moving on full lock on the steering, check for any suspicious looking leak stains in the engine compartment and that block and manifolds are generally free from corrosion

Who doesn't want an engine some drunk guy built in his back yard.

If there is a receipt for the rebuild, then I'd consider it.

I'm sorry, but what would that have to do with anything? My knowledge of transmissions tells me 5 feet is as good as 50, but I could be wrong.

You're going to look like a fuck is you ask if you can reverse for 2 blocks.
