Of course a large portion of people who run the country are white, but there is a good deal of the population that are not white, and of those that are white, support the same opinion as you do. The thing is, any large scale political change causes disaster. It's easy to say that American has money for bail outs, but we're hitting a recession, or whatever it's call. Many people are losing their jobs, people are losing houses, etc. Yes, the people in Africa have it bad, and people here should care about them. But there is a LARGE number of people in the US that are living pay check to pay check. Something as simple as getting rid of war gets rid of jobs (I am very anti-war, but that's just one thing). Is it really immoral for the people of the US, who themselves are in a tough spot, to worry about their OWN fortune and not spend large amounts on others when they themselves don't have much? It costs more to sustain a life here, and ultimately, some people need this money to continue living a life in a house, to send their kids to school, to put a decent meal on the table. Obviously there is a vast number difference in the two countries, but my point is this. It's not so simple. The leader of a country cannot put those of another country before the people of its own. And again... some people do think those things, it's undeniable that there are some people that are racist. However, that's for every race... someone black can think the same things about someone white, someone hispanic can hate someone middle eastern. Someone told my aunt to 'go back to her own country', when she herself wasn't from the country. And all my aunt did was told her to pick up after her dog, because the girl hadn't done it the past few times, and she got that kind of response. Ultimately, is there something wong with worrying about one's own place in life? Financial changes cause financial changes in the people. Tax raises, cuts from welfare, etc, etc. It's not so simple to change everything and think that that is that. If it ~was~ that easy, then it would have been done by now. With time, maybe we can get somewhere... and countries are making small efforts... individuals are doing their part. But there's only so much that can be done at one time. All in all, it's not just Africa. Some people are probably thinking, "why are countries lending money to America, they deserve it". You're going to get many walks of life, and some people want their money to remain their money. You may consider it selfish, they may consider it 'every man for themself'.

This topic made me giggle. I really don't care what my ancestors did to Africa, which they didn't, because the Bavarians were too busy fighting the Ottomans by the way, but I am sure that you assume that all white people had a hand in what Africa became, therefore it's all of our responsibilities to clean up that shithole. Oh no, you can get the people who's ancestors are actually responsible, not I. Second, as for moral standards, let me put it to you this way; I care more about my family and my loved ones, then anyone else, especially people I've never met, that act like I owe them something, when I don't. It's that simple. Please, get a goddamn education.

No one said it was like that. No one said anyone had to do this because of slavery. You may think I am one of those black people that think all white people owe us but I don't think that. I am saying that the colonization of white people there didn't help which someone agreed with me on. I am not saying people should do it because they owe anyone. This isn't about helping Africa because they owe us. See your still not getting what I mean when I say morals. It's not about money, it's not about owing them, it's not about any of that. It's about having the moral conscience in general to help people. This goes for everyone so sorry if you got mistaken thinking that I thought whites owe them. There are people who do go to help people in Africa. I just think it should get more support because many countries don't give a dam. What is so controversial about me criticizing other countries for not giving a dam? Are we too proud of ourselves to do that? So please get it right next time you post here. This isn't about paying back people who's ancestors have been enslaved. This is just about helping people. You care about your family. That is good. Why not push to help other people? So because you only care about your family that means the U.S.A among other countries should not give a dam about people suffering? Again it's a morally right thing and why not help starving children in another place? It's a moral thing and God smiles upon you when you do good things. He frowns upon people who think like " At least I'm not going to die, so I am not going to bother calling the police on the people beating that man across the street." So sorry if you thought this was a "whites owe blacks" thing because this goes for everyone too But it kind of sickens me how you guys are getting so mad over the idea that I think more people should help Africa. Does it make you that angry that I call out the world for not caring? Jesus this is an example of how human beings in this day and age don't care at all. Not even for the people in their own country. I'm done with you guys. Post edited at 12:59 pm on Dec. 28, 2008 by Anonymous

Why Africa? Do you think Africa is the only place that needs help? What about eastern europe? What about China? The country is doing well, but not a large portion of their people. The fact is, we pour plenty of money into Africa-it just never reaches the people it's supposed to. Is it our fault? No. Don't act like the blame for inactivity is on us, blame the governments who are taking our financial aid and using it as war funds.
That's what I have been saying! Also I included other places in the world that need help too. So all this time you thought I was saying that white people are to blame for all of this? No I am saying the nations in General don't care enough and as far as real life and the internet, I see that the citizens don't think Africa is worth helping either. So it's everyone in generals negative feelings that are to blame. When I was talking about white people I was saying that there are many white people that already don't care for black people as much and think "Just leave that barbaric island to itself, it's not worth helping". That isn't saying that all white people think that way.

The reason people say "Just leave it alone, it's not worth it."(Including myself) Is people are CONSTANTLY trying to help Africa. There are non-for-profit organizations, missions, UN, NATO, and individual national support organizations, but the resources are abused. Missionaries get massacred, NATO escalates situations 10x as worse as before, funding given is taken by dictators and militants to divert as war funds to escalate violence further. We help plenty, we give them the tools, the truth is Africa isn't capable of helping itself.

Africa's main problem with famine results in the fact that countries like the US subsidizes its agriculture and then exports its food products overseas to places such as Africa. Then the food is thrown into their markets at a price cheaper than the cost of production, and since African governments cannot subsidize agriculture as the IMF (who they have taken loans out of during the late 1970s during the oil crisis), farmers are forced out of business and the country is completely dependent on foreign imports of food. Sending massive amounts of food for aid only exasperates this problem even further. So now you have African citizens without work and thus without money. This sort of thing keeps them impoverished, and therefore dependent on food imports from the US. And remember, when you import something as vital as food like that, the price can vary a great deal depending on the cost of transportation. Back last summer when gas was at least $4 a gallon, it only drove the costs of food for them up even further, and with their food industry already destroyed, it's not exactly like they can just go back to farming so easily, so they're stuck. This was the biggest causes of the World Food Crisis that was going on, and still is to some extent. If not for these problems and with a working agricultural industry, Africa could easily feed itself today, even with its current population. Post edited at 12:06 pm on Dec. 29, 2008 by Bud2400
