If they die at least you can hope they're in a better place. If they walk out you spend a lot of time pissed at them and some of it wondering if they're still alive. Having them walk out sounds like a lot more to handle. But I haven't had either happen so I don't really know.

My dad died and it was, to date, the worst, hardest experience of my entire life.
I had to get medicated for depression and it's fucked me up on and off for the past few years.

I know both my parents would never walk out on me. If they did then it would hurt but I love them both so much I would be happy knowing that they were makign life better for themselves. If one of them died it would be so much worse.
