3 has some pretty good songs, on it, but if you want to make him REALLY happy, get him 4.....you can write your own songs, and it comes with a drumset I'm pretty sure

2 is better than 3, however 3 is slightly easier because you don't have to be split-second perfect with your hammer-ons.
