Has anyone who's suffered from an eating disorder had to tell their school about it?

My doctor wants the school to know just so I have extra support but I don't really know what to say to them... I will have to tell them because I'll be missing lessons each week, but how do I start off the conversation (that I have an ED)?

Another thing is my school is a private school and a charity pays for me to attend. So would they chuck me out because I'll be missing lots of lessons?

I would keep it private to myself...if the teachers ask why im missing so many days...ill askf ro a letter off the doctor explaining my situation.

I doubt they would kick you out.
They would most likely want to help and support you and you will possibly be introduced to the school counsellor or nurse.

As for telling the school about your ED, you could just say it as a matter of fact kind of thing- "Its been recommended by my doctor that I inform the school that I have an eating disorder and I will be missing ___ amount of classes a week for ____ amount of time"
If you dont feel comfortable saying it, maybe you could write it in a letter addressed to the school.

Good luck

The school knows about my eating disorder

They will watch you non stop. I never told anyone about mine but they figured out and that was like three years ago and the nurse still occasionally asks me about it.

You can just say that you suffer from a medical condition and need to pay visits to the doctor on a weekly basis but that you commit yourself to make up for the missing classes and that you hope you get support from the school. Personally, I think your parents/guardians should go talk to the school or write a formal letter just to make it more official and prevent problems.

I nealry did. Well, no one found out until a lot later but the school get asking me if i was eating and shit cos i had lost so much wait really quickly (5 stone in 3 months).
Lie and tell them you are taking some medication or something.
You don't have to tell the school, it's your business but they might be able to help support you.
Good luck

I would recommend not telling them.  At my school, if you had depression, an eating disorder, suicide attempt, etc etc you were forced to go the therapy and got put on probation until your therapist said you were 'better'.  Then if you relapsed, you ran the risk of being expelled.  It's not worth the hassle.

Hey just to let you know I was forced to tell my school in the end because I'm not allowed to do physical education anymore. But they're being very supportive so it's not too bad.
Thanks for your help! :)
