the lighting/lack of lighting is horrible, but the same shot with the correct lighting would look pretty good... if you softened up your face a bit

It's not bad. The lighting is a little off. Your face looks darker than the background which throw me off because I end on focusing on the light and shadow in the snow. Aside from the actually photo quality, to make it look nicer I would put on a sweater or a dresser shirt. It looks like you are just wearing a T-shirt and so it conflicts with the snowy background. It general the photo is good just not professional.

not really, it looks like it had some thought put into it such as the background, your pose and such, but you can tell it doesn't hold the professional touches.
