If you expect it from him and project to him that you want him to say it on a regular basis, he is less likely to actually do it. He'll start to see it as something that he could just say so that your happy and he will be rewarded for. If he does love you, he might feel that he doesnt have to push it upon you like you are to him. Maybe without pressure to do so he'll do it on his own.
