Lol, no. It's gonna be discounted for upgrade but more expensive for system builders/full installs.

It be funny if windows 7 just totally came out uncompatible with most new hardware. It would make for a big joke on MS part haha >:)

It'll be a free upgrade if you meet certain requirements. I can't remember them now but it has to be on a pc pre-installed with Vista from 1st July onwards.
Where did you hear that? I honestly dont see that happening.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1791 It's not going to apply to everyone unfortunately, but a few might benefit.
Thats not technically free. They are allowing manufactures to opt into this, which probably means the manufactures will basically be including a license to Win7 (upgrade of course). The manufacture will be paying for that at one point in time, so they will probably push part, if not all, the additional cost onto the cost of the computer. It would be something like this: Computer A is identical in spec to Computer B. Both come pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium. Computer A is $500, Computer B is $550. However, Computer B comes with a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out. That actually sounds about right, since I imagine the OEM upgrade of Win7 will be about $50, with the full OEM license being $100-$150 depending on the edition.

Ah ok, I get you. This is still as close as it's going to get anyway for some in regards to a "deal" Not including those manufacturers who'll push the price just cause they can put a "Windows 7 Capable" sticker on it.
