I think the thing is that parents who have more than two kids tend to "put all their eggs in one basket" basically.

In middle class families parents usually want their kids to grow up to be rich but for that to be well-insured there's an extent they have to pick and choose which kid they're going to invest in. If they can't afford to put a lot of time and effort into getting SAT courses/nice tuition etc etc for all their kids it'll usually go to the oldest kid, and it's understandable that they don't want to do that one right after the other so the kid born second probably isn't going to face as much pressure to do well or as much helicopter parents and willingness to dish out tons of money on them. If parents can get one highly successful kid and one that grows up to be a normal member of society, they'll still have the success of that one kid and at least no major failures.

So question: If you grew up with multiple siblings, do you feel like your parents picked somebody to be the one they invested in?

nope.

i have two brothers and a sister and i feel like we are all treated equally.

i mean, we're all different, so my parents treat us differently, but that's normal.  they don't invest in one of us more than the others, no.

Not really. I have 3 other sisters. They just divide it up and give us all the same amount of money and equal amount of investing in.

Well my parents are upper-middle class and I only have one sibling. So far they've balanced me and my brother, but they pressure me more for some reason, probably because my brother is a fricken genius.

My mom has actually told me that I'm the one she's betting on.

My father doesn't seem to have a preference...

Yes. My two older sisters definitely got invested in. Whereas, me and my younger brother/sister haven't been, really.

I honestly think that is true, i just again maybe the youngest..  My parents spoiled me when i was little but now that i am older they are always telling me to do stuff and I am the youngest and I have to do everything in the household. I cook, clean, and get groceries.. my parents don't let any of my siblings do as much as me at any point in their life, yet I have to do it.. it's kinda bull shit.

Now that I currently do not have a car they don't want to take me to work, take me out car shopping or anything.... it's ridiculous, but when my brothers all had jobs and such that they had and i never asked for anything back then.. but now i need to do this and they don't want to.

Even when they were teaching me how to drive, they never wanted to do it.. and my first permit expried until i could get a new one and they didn't bother to take me out to get a new one until it was ABSOLUTELY necessary when college started and such and i NEEDED to be able to drive.. which i absolute bull

If I was to be a parent, I'd figure out my finances before I had more kids, to make sure I could invest equally in them.

They don't have a preference. They didn't invest in either of us.

Although I've succeeded much more than my younger sister has.

Makes sense, but no.

I am the oldest, and they are not on top of me about academics at all. I do the best out of my siblings at school, though. They spend more time with my sister and even more time with my brother because they need help. It's always been that way.
