Its a made up "sickness" to describe someone who is sad, and almost by labeling them as depressed, makes them more depressed? Maybe not the right way to look at it, but to me its just someone going through a hard time, unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And depression pills what are they made of? Just a lot of serotonin to make you happy or wut?

It's possible that there are changes in the brain, but this points to nothing other than "people who have changing psychological states have corresponding changes in the brain", just like someone who constantly is extremely happy would have changes in the brain.

So, it's an effect, not a cause.

Everyone gets sad, but those with clinical depression have a pathological, biologically-rooted tendency towards it.

People who are sad aren't depressed. People who are depressed are "sad" for weeks/months on end. It effects everything, it can mess with your sleeping habits and eating habits, it can even make you sore. It just doesn't go away and it makes it incredibly hard to function. I've dealt with it off and on since I was 13 and it's definitely real. I never felt worse knowing that I was depressed so I can't relate there. And each medication is different. There are ones that pump different chemicals into you while there are others that merely "poke holes in the drains" so that the chemicals that are already present in the mind can flow more freely.

The DSM-IV criteria has been heavily criticised as to whether or not such conditions really exist and the psychological factor in itself. I don't doubt people can feel extremely sad or 'depressed' but if it merits a medical diagnosis is the point here.

The condition is 'fake' in that it doesn't exist as a legitimate medical diagnosis, but it's very real as an emotional problem, as are all mental disorders.
