After we broke up my ex said he needed time to himself and it was just "too much of the same person" for him.  He also told me that we need to be off friend status for a while and he doesn't want to talk to me for a while.

Almost two months after this was all said and done, I messaged him and asked if he wanted to hang out and play poker with a bunch of people I was having over.  He initially said maybe.

He did not come to the poker game (I didn't think we would after a "maybe") and I asked him if he needed more time apart before trying to be friends again.  He messaged back that he had "convinced" himself to go, but his dad called and wanted to hang out at the bowling alley and watch the Orange Bowl.  Then he went into how over break his sister reminded him of how important family is and he ended the message saying that "in all honesty [he] wanted to come" but he wants to spend time with his dad "while he still can."

Does this sound genuine, or is he putting me down easily?  Note that he didn't sugarcoat the fact that we were not on speaking terms anymore and he no longer considered me a friend.  I figured that if he just said that plain once, he would be willing to tell me again....

What he said really meant he was sick of being with you...
