Anyone who uses it is a complete imbecile. You sacrifice ease-of-use and quality for wobbly windows and meaningless abstractions like "freedom."

There's not even any excuse to use it as a server when BSD is available.

Linnex you mean?

Well it is a modable OS which is what makes it fun, since it can be customized...even better is that it is free.

I run two OS's on one of my comps, I just swap up BIOS when I want to run Linnex.

You should look into user made mods. Some are pretty darn cool.

I have heard of Linux though, it is amazing. Linux is easier to use than Windows if you know how to use it, that's when you see the beauty of that "freedom".

Obviously you do not embrace the power, stick to Windows it suits you.

Linux is the failure of all computerising technology.

The penguin is trying to survive Global warming, which is probably because of the harddrive always overheating.

It's got the storage equivalent of a small box.

I mean, it's the retard of all computers.

Windows is customizable. It also actually works and has a wide range of good, compatible applications that don't need to be broken by WINE.

Linux is easier to use

Maybe Linnex is a distro (an obscure one at that) but it is Linux. That is the proper name of the kernal. Linux.

No, Linux would be the intellectual equivalent of computers. Complicated, maybe a little hard to get, but ultimately better off.

Open operating system running on open hardware. It doesnt get any better than that.

Linux provides endless possibilities. You can use software that is already programed, or you can just make your own. You have full access to all the kernals source code, so you can take full advantage of it. You can make it run on anything you want it to.

And BTW, penguins live in warm climates as well. Shows how smart you are.

Ahhh, good ol' n00bs trying to put down Linux.

Personally, I can't say I use Linux for all my computing needs. for one I play video games, and video games don't usually work in Linux very well. Another is that most applications I want access to either don't have a linux version or the linux version is a piece of garbage (looking at you, skype -_-;) so in the end, I keep dual boot Linux and Windows

But Linux is an excellent development platform, and I love Unix-based commandlines over the crappy pseudo-DOS that windows comes with. I just can't take full advantage of the customization of Linux because it takes a degree of skill beyond what I've learned so far.

I switched to Linux for a while. It was nice having it more customizable, but that came at a cost. Sure, there is more choice, but with Windows/Mac, everything just works. If there is no option for it, it can't be changed (without hacking the system). On Linux, you can change everything. You just might have to learn how to code to even change the simple stuff.

Also, OS X looks and works better. Since Linux is not made by a single company, it is not unified and optimized. Half of your programs are Gnome and half in KDE (if you want the functionality), so the interface ends up looking terrible.

There are some features in Linux, though, that I miss now that I am back in Windows--I didn't have to pay for everything (even the advanced functionality) and I could make it work how I worked. In Windows, though, stuff just works. I don't have to constantly restart the sound server or turn num lock on when the computer starts. It just works. (OS X just works better, though... :) )

> Exactly, most Linux distributions aren't necessarily aimed for people that don't know, or don't want to manually configure something to their specifications. It's that way because most of these 'just works' bullshit is scripted commands which are prone to failure. Manual configuration assures stability.

Moving on, saying OS X looks better is subjective. I've used Mac's , my father owns a Mac and Aqua is a steaming pile of horse crap IMHO. They've pretty much mixed up aesthetics with functionality. Everything has to be 'elegant' and 'simplistic' in their eyes they've pretty much cock blocked you to use your system. What I mean by that is they've dropped an entire DE on top of the system limiting access to the Unix system it's built on.

Also, it doesn't need to be unified, and optimization is reliant on you. Gnome and KDE are two separate projects, if you want to use K3B in a GTK+ you can. If your anal about how everything looks, install KDE and add it to your ~/.xinitrc as a session. If you do it right, the two sessions and applications won't interlock.

Concluding myself, Linux isn't intended to be a regular computer users alternative. It's a system that's reliant on the user and the open community. If you want everything to 'just work' or are caught up on aesthetics use something else. Just because something is CLI driven, or requires you to actually interact with your system doesn't make it's terrible or outdated. If you know what your doing and understand a system CLI is much more powerful, and package managers are easier to use. What do you think InstallationWizards, and executable binaries are? A front end that interacts with your kernel at a system level to give it a command to do something.

I've used Linux/Unix-based systems for 7 years, and I've had no issues.
