and today I just thought to myself, even on the off-chance that I do get one, I wouldn't have a clue how to hang on to her anyway. She will soon get bored and I will be dumped back to square one. This task just seems to be getting harder and harder and I don't know how everyone except me makes it seem so easy.

It's really not easy, you have to make conversations, find common ground, and connect in some way on a mental/physical and/or emotional level.

Don't let people who are in relationships fool you; they are not as great as they seem and they are not as easy as they seem. It takes a lot of work to make two people who like/love each other to be in a steady relationship.
