Since there's too many religions to list and be comprehensive and open-minded, I figure this is the second best. I'm quite curious to see the results based on a portion of the community labeled as intellectual, since I've always associated religion with a lack of intelligence. I'm not calling religious people stupid, but I am saying that the poor and uneducated are more liable to be religious because they have nothing more sturdy to rely on other than a higher power to guide them through their lives.

I think that statement is completely ignorant.

I am a scientist and believe in the statement "science makes you believe in nothing." I think that's good, because if you do believe in something that cannot be explained in our frame of reference, your faith in whatever it is is that much stronger.

Besides, we all have morals. We all have personal rules we set for ourselves. Dogmatic rules are no different, only they are rules that groups of people adhere to, rather than each individual person's individual rules.

Do I think religion is g-r-r-r-eat? No. Many bad things have been done because of religion. But it's the ideal that appeals to people, and as long as the ideal is not forgotten, and the everyday man strives for the ideal, then the belief is fine.

I do not have anything to do with religion. I believe that the whole whether there's a God debate or not is unnecessary and thus I don't take sides on it. I also believe that it does not matter whether there's physical proof or not because I'm not sure whether I myself exist =/

right now, you saying you're sorry would mean the world to me.

Just a point, Mein Alias that "uneducated" doesn't necessarily mean "unintelligent." Your statements in this thread are rather ignorant, as has been pointed out.

I associate with a religion. My family is Jewish and I adhere to certain laws pertaining to Kosher eating and keeping the High Holy days. Other than that though I pretty much act according to my views of civil behavior.

I guess it'd be most accurate to say that right now, I hesitantly believe in a divine force of the universe. What that is, what it's motives are, or what to call it, I don't claim any knowledge to.
I fluctuate, though. I struggle with my beliefs a lot; I can go from being agnostic bordering on basic Abrahamic beliefs or even closest to Catholic beliefs, as that's my only exposure to religion; to complete atheist and not even believing in a soul. There's a lot of questions that make me go back and forth. I don't know if I'll ever settle on one belief.

I chose the last option.
I have no belief whatsoever in a deity nor do I practice or associate myself with any religion.

I chose option one.  I believe in God.  I'm sure that is enough to suffice in the religious stand.  I consider myself to be somewhat intellectual and educated.  I don't think I'm ignorant in any means.

I studied sciences throughout high school and college and, while not a REAL science degree, I have a degree in Comp Sci.  ;)

I believe in something bigger or more powerful than myself but I do not live by life by rules 'it' has supposedly deemed to be the ultimate truth. Instead I think of it more like karma or a general feeling that eminates more at certain times than others. Sometimes it's present and often it doesn need to be.

Actually I agree with you. All you have to do is be observant to see that a vast majority of people who are extremely religious are not as intelligent. However that is not always true as you stated. There are plenty of intelligent people who are religious.
I'm assuming that the people who find your view ignorant are just angry you would say such a thing.

Your view is in no way ignorant. It is a fair hypothesis imo. Now if you had just went on some rant about how religious people are all uneducated morons I might see some justice for their insults.

However, I have thought myself that some strict atheists are in the same boat as the "poor/uneducated" religious fundamentalists. Not as many. Yet, I dislike hearing atheists say that they KNOW there is no god. It is the same to me as religious people saying they KNOW there is a god. I personally am an agnostic atheist. Which clears up the problem for me. I am not high and mighty enough to state that I KNOW whether or not there is a god. I just don't believe there is. I believe in science, energy, and I question certain supernatural occurrences.
