I'm really annoyed right now. Some stupid selfish bitch has gone and got herself pregnant knowing that she could pass on her disability to her child or kill herself and her baby.

If you had a really nasty physical disability would you risk a 50/50 chance of passing it on to your unborn child?

I wouldn't, I know what it's like living with my disability and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. I couldn't put my parents through it all again, knowing that in the end they would have to do the majority of the up bringing.

This is her (and my) disability...

No.  If I thought there was a chance that my child would not have a good quality of life, I would not have the child.

Is this something that can be tested for prenatally?  If it is I would probably consider getting pregnant, and aborting the child if it were to be positive for this disease.

What is the disease?

disability has nothing to do with the relationship a parent has with her child. I feel sorry for you, all you see is jealousy and hate.

50/50 is good odds.

It all depends on the type of illness really.

I completely disagree.  Why have a child that has no quality of life?  Why put a child through pain and misery if you don't have to?  I see no jealous, or hate.

I completely disagree. Why have a child that has no quality of life? Why put a child through pain and misery if you don't have to? I see no jealous, or hate.

I don't think the OP is jealous or hateful... however, are you saying that the OP has no quality of life?

It depends on the person.  Personally, I would never abort a child because they were to have a disability.  Quality of life... you can have the highest quality of life and have a disability all your life.  For me (key word is for me), to abort a child because of the disability would sound more like I didn't want to deal with it, that I didn't think it was just as much human has a 'normal' child.

---------

I can't say what I would do, because until I experienced the disability, I wouldn't know whether or not I would risk passing it on or not.  I would enter a dilemma... because I want so badly to have children of my own, and I would lead myself into a loop on whether or not it is selfish to have a child... that I would love and support, disability or not.

However... I wouldn't do so in a case where my parents would be the primary support for my child.  It would be me... The main reason here... that I would not have the child is because you said it could kill her or the baby... and that is not something that I would want to risk for either of us.

It's really hard to say... it's easy to say, no or yes... but until you've reached that point, it's hard to say.

I don't know your friend... but maybe she used protection properly... this disability isn't going to go away, right?  Should she not have sex her entire life because of it?  It's a hard border line to put in...  I don't know, I have mixed feelings, and without much knowledge about your friend or the disability, I don't have much to go off of.

No matter how much I would want a child, I would not want my child to have to deal with such a disease. I would rather adopt.

I said it depended on the disease.  I would abort the child because I would rather my child didn't have a poor quality of life.  I am not talking about aborting any disability, but there are many that I would.  I am more than willing to deal with a child with disability, I have medical training which would make it so much easier.  I however, could not live with myself, knowing that I brought a child into the world to suffer.  That is far worse then preventing the suffering.

yes, i would. only because the condition can be treated, in full, if caught at an early enough stage. i was born with bi-lateral retnoblastoma(cancer of the eye). if it had been caught early enough i would still have sight in both of my eyes, instead of one. my child may or may not be born with this condition(exactly 50/50), but my child will not live with the condition
