Computer won't read my USB cable?

I got a Rocketfish usb cable for my LG rumor and I wan guna put some songs from a few CD's I got onto it but whenever I connect my USB cable the computer wont read it, nothing about a usb cable comes up of is found on the computer at all. the computer doesnt read the Adapter that I got aswell, is it the usb/adaptor or its it a computer issue?

I had that problem with my iPods.
It was saying that my computer couldnt read it.
Then I unhooked my printer and it worked.
