Looks like emotion's the winner. If guy one was taunting guy two, it was just base instinct for emotions to kick in and help defend him from them. If logic was the winner, guy two would know that guy one knew nothing about him and probably would just walk away to prevent anything bad from happening. =P

evolution doesn't always drive us to do the most logical things now does it? Evolution makes it instinctive for fourteen-year-olds to fuck around with each other, but that's none too logical
Again, socially in basic principals, in a more balanced playing field, a non-predatory (ftmp) species, such as we WERE, would be best to reproduce ASAP, or at the exact time of sexual maturity. Greater chance of prolonged species-wide survival that way. that's true of any species, in fact.
