This means that if you're a carrier to a genetic disease (which, I imagine a lot of us are as it doesn't affect us)...and have a child with someone who is also a carrier (which is far more likely if you come from the same set of genes...your mother and father), there will be no gene to counteract the faulty gene, therefore the child will be more likely to develop a serious genetical (and usually incurable) disease.

This sometimes doesn't spring up with the first generation of children born out of incestual relationships, but because of this massively increased risk, it's not something that's good to be normalised within society.

I know that incest is a social taboo, and that most people don't even want to think about it- but really- why is it so bad? I don't get why it's so terrible- if it's consensual (between adults), why are peole criminalized for it?

These would be recognized by their land-dwelling descendants as freaks if they had the mental capacity to process such thoughts. Much how we would regard web-fingered or extra-toed children produced through incest.

They are the next step in the progression of the human race. The majority's refusal to accept this will eventually lead to the destruction of the human race through lack of reproduction.

This is the change we need.

Serious as in CF, mental retardation etc etc. The odds of this happening a couple of generations down the line in incestual relationships is increased dramatically.
