I think it would just be a redox reaction so magnesium gives two electrons to copper.

Mg -> Mg2+ + 2e-
Cu2+ + 2e- -> Cu

Overall therefore it'd be: Mg (s)  +  Cu2+ (aq) ->  Mg2+ (aq)  +  Cu(s)
