LSD can basically render you schizophrenic for the rest of your life by triggering latent genetic *biases?* (I forget the word they use for those). Anyways, I've seen it happen, and I'm sure beyond a doubt there are stories about it on Erowid.
But then there's this.
Plus there's stuff like HPPD, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinogen_persisting_perception_disorder, which may not be a psychotic illness, but still not a fun one to have for the rest of your life.
Yeah, my brother has this though he has only taken LSD twice, whereas I've taken it many, many times and never got HPPD. It's a rare side-effect and most people don't get it.
That article doesn't say that LSD helps Schizophrenics. It said that people on LSD experience not only similar mental states when compared with Schizos, but similar neurophysical states as well. Meaning that by testing people on LSD, they can gain insight into how Schizophrenia affects the brain. So basically, taking LSD is a little bit like being temporarily Schizophrenic. That would suck to take a couple hits and have fucked up vision for the rest of your life

Yeah, I guess I should have elaborated more. What I meant was that it could be used to eventually help schizophrenics by creating new drugs based on/similar to that. Basically what I understood from the article is that the unnamed "second drug" that targets glutamate receptors would nullify the hallucinogenic effects of LSD (or the hallucinations brought on by schizophrenia) and basically stop the trip (if on LSD) or prevent hallucinations in the cases of schizophrenia. So basically what I'm saying is that it can be helpful in the treatment and knowledge of schizophrenia. Also, I've never heard of LSD rendering you permanently schizophrenic. Are there any articles on this?
Scientific research on that issue is a bit limited actually. My main source is a guy I knew who lives a few blocks over. He was institutionalized for over a year after one trip and is probably going to be on anti-psychotic medication for the rest of his life. Such anecdotal evidence is plentiful. I did look at Erowid about an hour ago and there are indeed such cases written about there there. I personally wouldn't write them off, but it is fair to disregard them if you wish since people say shit sometimes.

Sup peeps! Can anybody recommend LSD? I know that health wise it does practically no damage, but I was wondering what the experience was like... You know, the kind of stuff they don't tell you about while they brainwash you =) x
Take the blue pill and you will wake up in your bed and you will not remember a thing.. take the red pill and see how deep the rabbits hole really goes. LSD can really do one of 4 things to you 1) Make you giggly n lightly confuze/trip ya out for a few hours.. (light dose ~50-100uG) 2)Completly shatter your sense of reality as you know it, and your stuck having to clense/rebuild your mental self from the ground up (medium-high dose ~150-300uG) 3)You are mentally (re)born to the truth (high dose ~400+ uG) 4) You fail to comprehend your own reality, and it turns into a bad trip, which could be the worst experience of your life. (Athough could be very meaningful) (medium-high dose)

Who the fuck in their right minds would take more than 100 uG? Fucking irresponsible, is all. LSD is a powerful drug and the mind is a delicate thing.
I think anything below 100uG is just toys with ur mind.. Makes things a little more prenounced.. you can find "yourself" if you kno what your looking for, but other then that it would just be a fun time. I think a true LSD experience is a time of "spirital clensing" which I find very hard to do with less then 80-100uG.
I've had quite spiritual experiences on two tabs, thank you. I wouldn't want to know what that's like.. too scary. To each their own, I suppose.
