What? I thought you were asking about the existence of dragons in terms of the Bible and that's exactly why I posted what I did. As for the validity of the Bible itself, you find one thing you disagree with on that website and throw everything else it has backed up out the window? What about this page? It presents statements commonly accepted as fact about the universe (as determined by science) and how they do not disprove anything said in the Bible (in fact, the site provides examples of where they are talked about).
Does not disprove =/= proves. The existence of Finland does not disprove the claim that I have a 12 inch dick, and yet it happens to be false all the same.
And on top of that, the original page I linked to discusses both historical and textual evidence.
Okey dokey:
Of these prophecies, the most striking examples are the predictions about an "anointed one" ("Messiah" in Hebrew) who was to arrive in the future. About 4 BC, a miraculous event occurred—a boy named Jesus was born to a virgin named Mary. You can read His story in the book of Luke.
Again, no evidence is offered beyond "the Bible says this happened". Great for Christians, and irrelevant for non-Christians.
Starting at age 30, Jesus fulfilled more and more of these prophecies written about the Messiah. His fulfillment of these prophecies was very spectacular: Jesus gave sight to the blind, made the lame walk, cured those who had leprosy, gave the deaf hearing, and raised people from the dead! These miracles and others were done many times in front of thousands of witnesses for three years.
Again, no evidence whatsoever is offered.
About 30 AD, Jesus was crucified (a prophecy) and died (a prophecy). Three days later he rose from the dead (another prophecy), after which He was seen by over 500 witnesses. Since these prophecies were written down at least 400 years before they happened, there is no doubt that the Bible's writers were inspired supernaturally—by God. To examine these prophecies yourself, click on the link below.
Firstly, the fulfilment of prophecy is only impressive if the fulfiller are not aware of what they fulfill. For example, Jesus studies the prophecies and notes that the messiah will ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. He then decides it'd be totally awesome to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. Secondly, the New Testament was passed down orally for generations before being properly compiled, and tales have a way of mutating to fit preconceptions. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, it would have been easy for the New Testament authors to posthumously edit the story to conform to the prophetic expectations. Again, the argument only works if you begin from the assumption that the Bible is true. I could go on if you wish (I'm putting no more than two minutes of thought into this, in case it wasn't apparent) but the next section again links away, and I wouldn't want to make assumptions about your position.

That is not at all what I am getting at. What I am saying (and God help me to make this as clear as possible) is that those who claim science disproves the Bible repeatedly have either never read it or are ignoring it.
Secondly, the New Testament was passed down orally for generations before being properly compiled, and tales have a way of mutating to fit preconceptions. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, it would have been easy for the New Testament authors to posthumously edit the story to conform to the prophetic expectations.
I can provide you with an article that talks of three basic principals we often use to determine the accuracy of a piece of text (in historiography): the bibliographical test, the internal evidence test, and the external evidence test. I will post it if you'd like as it has quite a bit to back up each of these principles but is relatively long. I'm not addressing your other 'grievances' because when I first read that website I myself noticed the same thing about the other couple arguments you talked about. I understand that using the Bible alone to prove itself doesn't work for nonbelievers but I don't think that invalidates the rest of what is said.

Frankly, I'd love to hear you answer the question in the OP, plain and simple, without all the links, and dodging around. I would love to hear in your own words why you think your religion is better than another. Then we can start from somewhere.
Are you asking for the genuine reasons why I believe? I didn't post my reason in this thread because I realize it's not the kind of thing that others (especially nonbelievers) even care about and that's why I strayed toward posting things that aren't simply anecdotal evidence. That being said, God has repeatedly answered my prayers. And every time I doubt Him (and I doubt Him AT LEAST once a day because part of me wants to be like "fuck you I don't care about this crap I just want to live my LIFE"), my doubts are alleviated by reading the Bible and doing further research online about it. Every time I ask God to prove Himself to me and to answer my questions, He does!! *waits to be called "delusional"* Post edited at 3:15 pm on Jan. 3, 2009 by MourningAir

Posting a couple of scientific facts that do not disprove the Bible does not demonstrate that there are no scientific facts that disprove the Bible.
You're right, but saying what you have doesn't mean that there are. The purpose of the page was to provide some of the more common ones and then provide Biblical examples of how they do not contradict it. Feel free to post scientific facts that DO disprove the Bible por favor.
So the bibliographical test basically examines the textual transmission by which ancient historical documents reach us. As Josh McDowell says, "In other words, not having the original documents, how reliable are the copies we have in regard to the number of manuscripts (MSS) and the time interval between the original and extant copy?" The history of Thucydides is connected to only eight MSS dating to almost 1,300 years after he wrote. The history of Herodotus has just as few and late MSS but as F.F. Bruce says, "No classical scholar would listen to an argument that the authenticity of Herodotus or Thucydides is in doubt because the earliest manuscripts of their works which are of use to us are over 1,300 years later than the originals." We have only five MSS and a 1,400-year gap between the date that Aristotle's poetics were written and the earliest copy we have dated. We have nine or ten MSS of Caesar's compositions of the history of the Gallic Wars, each dating at least 1,000 years after Caesar died. Josh McDowell says, "When it comes to the manuscript authority of the New Testament, the abundance of material is almost embarrassing in contrast." This is because there are over 20,000 copies of New Testament MSS in existence today. As far as manuscript authority goes, the Illiad comes in a distant second at 643 MSS. The Dead Sea Scrolls were an enormous discovery that helped show the legitimacy and accuracy of the Bible. At least parts of manuscripts of every Old Testament book except for Esther were found and an entire manuscript of the book of Isaiah was found. These manuscripts date back 1,000 years earlier than any other Old Testament manuscript that was previously used. Studies comparing the Dead Sea Scroll manuscripts to the more recent manuscripts revealed 95% accuracy of the text. Only 13 changes were discovered in the entire book of Isaiah in the Dead Sea Scroll manuscripts and eight of them were known from other ancient sources. So basically after 1,000 years of copying down these things, no changes in meaning took place and there were nearly no changes in wording. But wait, we have two tests left to go. Next we have the internal evidence test. Basically this examines how credible the written record is and to what extent. Any literary critic would follow Aristotle's dictum at this point. It says that "The benefit of the doubt is to be given to the document itself, and not arrogated by the critic to himself." This is summarized (aka put into English ) by John W. Montgomery: "One must listen to the claims of the document under analysis, and not assume fraud or error unless the author disqualified himself by contradictions or known factual inaccuracies." We know pretty obviously that the ability of the writer or witness to tell the truth is helpful to someone looking at the text to determine credibility (this point was also made by Dr. Louis Gottschalk, former professor of history at the University of Chicago). In order to determine the author's ability to tell the truth, we have to look at the witness's nearness both geographically and chronologically to what he recorded. Now we know that the men who recorded the life and teachings of Jesus were either eyewitnesses themselves or they related the accounts of eyewitnesses to the actual events of teachings of Jesus (I can provide examples of this if you like. I figured I wouldn't now for sake of being condensed). We do know as well that the New Testament accounts of Christ were moving around and being circulated among those that were alive with Jesus was and they could've confirmed or denied the accuracy of those accounts. We know that there were enemies of this new religious movement that was being formed (called The Way and was the early Church) and would've been happy to refute any inaccuracies presented by the authors of those eyewitness accounts. People also like to argue that maybe these guys just made everything up. Will Durant, who spent his life analyzing historical documents and records of antiquity said "Despite the prejudices and theological preconceptions of the evangelists, they record many incidents that mere inventors would have concealed—the competition of the apostles for high places in the Kingdom, their flight after Jesus' arrest, Peter's denial, the failure of Christ to work miracles in Galilee, the references of some auditors to his possible insanity, his early uncertainty as to his mission, his confessions of ignorance as to the future, his moments of bitterness, his despairing cry on the cross; no one reading these scenes can doubt the reality of the figure behind them. That a few simple men should in one generation have invented so powerful and appealing a personality, so lofty an ethic, and so inspiring a vision of human brotherhood, would be a miracle far more incredible than any recorded in the Gospels. After two centuries of Higher Criticism the outlines of the life, character, and teaching of Christ remain reasonably clear, and constitute the most fascinating feature in the history of Western man." The third and final test is the external evidence test. This test basically examines other historical material and whether or not it confirms or denies what the text is internally claiming. As Josh McDowell states, "In other words, what sources are there, apart from the literature under analysis, that substantiate its accuracy, reliability, and authenticity?" Dr. Louis Gottschalk, who I mentioned before, says that if there is conformity or agreement with other known historical or scientific facts is often the test of evidence that proves decisive.
I left out the last bit because the author goes on to prove this with quotes taken from texts written by religious authors and I'm sure that's not what you want. Luckily, that Clarifying Christianity website I originally posted provides a couple pieces of text from secular histories that verify the existence of things recorded in the Bible.

A religion is basically someone's beliefs. And people share those beliefs so they get together and do stuff. If you like one then you say it's right. It really depends on the person. I hate all religions so there :)

I don't consider that delusional so much as just an illogical response. If that's why you want to believe in God, great. More power to you. However when examining validity of your religion over that of others, that reasoning doesn't hold much weight. Maybe following Christianity has fulfilled your desires and answered your prayers and given you what you want out of life. However, many will say the same about their own (different) religion. When discussing whether or not one religion is more correct than another, I'd say it would be more advantageous to use evidence that cannot carry over to other religions.
And that is why I did not use personal reasons to originally answer this question.
I understand you were attempting to do this earlier. What I was hoping for was some semblance of an explanation as to what YOU thought about everything you were linking to. I understand that there are tons of sources on the internet that validate Christianity. However, there are also sources on the internet that "validate" the idea that the holocaust didn't happen and that Elvis is still alive. I suppose I'm just looking for some indication that you can summarize everything you're taking in with all your reading.
I may not have originally explained myself but I have done so repeatedly in my responses to this topic. If that's not good enough, then I really don't know what to tell you. I'm not going to go to a website and summarize what they've said when they're pretty straightforward in the first place. The websites themselves do not "validate" the idea, but rather the evidence presented.

The holocaust did not happen.
The best evidence is forensic. Until recently, there was never a forensic examination of the alleged murder weapon (gas chambers). Demographic figures are incomplete. After the fall of East Europe to communism, many of the millions of Jews who fled Poland into the Soviet Union or ended up behind the Iron Curtain changed their names to assimilate, many civilians died in the war, many died in the concentration camps of louse-born typhus. During World War One, two million civilians in the Soviet Union died of typhus. Many died in Stalin's gulags. Yad Vashem, a Holocaust Documentation Center in Israel has a database of 3,000,000 alleged victims of Nazi extermination. But as you can see HERE (my maiden name, Friedemann), nearly every name is listed at least twice, some as many as five times! It is forensically impractical or impossible to exterminate millions with louse disinfestant (hydrogen cyanide gas) or diesel exhaust as alleged by malicious "witnesses" or tortured confessors. There are no written orders for extermination. Aerial reconnaissance photographs of the concentration camps show no smoke and flames belching from the crematoria and pyres as alleged. The photos and records show there was not enough coke or crematoria to cremate millions of corpses. The "witnesses" and confessors lied about how many minutes it takes to cremate a corpse. Diesel exhaust does not contain significant amount of carbon monoxide to kill a human. If the Nazis wanted to kill millions they could have driven the coal fired train into a tunnel or quonset hut and gassed 'em with the exhaust from the locomotive or used the exhaust from the crematoria. At Auschwitz, during a typhus epidemic, up to 300 people died per day, hence the crematoria, shaving of heads and requisitions for tons of Zyklon B louse disinfestant. HCN is a very dangerous, impractical, messy method for extermination. Hitler sought to remove from German living-space the Jews who did not want to assimilate much like Thomas Jefferson and many politicians today want to remove Negro's and Mexicans from America. Hitler did not plan to rule the world (England already did and it was a burden). He sought living-space in the east (Poland) and to conquer Bolshevism. U$ Secretary of War, Henry Stimson wrote in his diary, "we must maneuver Japan (by embargoing oil) into firing the first shot." The Gas Chambers are a fraud, a tourist attraction, slander, demonizing, impractical/impossible, malicious atrocity propaganda spread by the communists, who hated Hitler and perpetrated by Jews, who were always looking for ways to get to the lands of milk and money. The Jews have extorted billions from the US Treasury, Germany, Swiss banks and insurance companies on account of the Holohoax fraud. The Holohoax also makes those who fought Hitler feel like they did something good fighting the demon, Hitler instead of letting Hitler take on Stalin alone.
This was provided by several people with PhDs, according to the text. It provides evidence. Therefore it's true. The fact that the opposing arguments are never examined is irrelevant.
