I didn't mean that, your just trying to start an argument. What I am saying is, if your hurting no one, and live in peace then you are right. But no one should preach to each other and shove beliefs down each others throat, cause that would be wrong.

Asking you to explain your statement is trying to start an argument? You should probably stay out of R&P then.

It's your tone. I have noticed a hell of a lot of people on the religion forum have a tone, and I'm not gonna be nice to someone who talks down to me like I am stupid.

My tone? All I did was pose a question to you and then I agreed with part of what you're saying... I really don't see how that's talking down to you. I think you're just paranoid/a bit biased in regards to how you think Christians view nonbelievers.

No, I'm not. I get too many people on this forum picking at every little thing I say. When it comes to the religious forum, I'm just not gonna reply to anyone who quotes me anymore. I love talking about religion, but people on here have seriously been pissing me off lately.

It's because religion means a lot to people so they're going to look at every aspect of what you say. Yeah I know it's annoying but that's how discussion works. Just because someone questions what you're saying doesn't mean they're talking down to you or that they think you're an idiot!

MourningAir, do you think dragons exist or have, at some point, existed?

This is not meant as an allegory or a sarcastic dig at theism. It is an honest question.

Depends on what you mean by "dragons." In the past the term has been used to mean serpents and even dinosaurs (giant dinosaur-like animals, think: leviathan, behemoth).

As for the fire-breathing dragons one finds in medieval cities, no, I have yet to be given a reason for why I'd believe they actually existed.

Mm, I was just wondering because that endlessly entertaining website you posted is certainly convinced that huge, fire breathing lizards co-existed with man:

The history of every culture is filled with stories of fire-breathing dragons. If you think about it, in all the past ages wouldn't someone have made up a story of a fire-breathing lion or something? Nobody did because the dragon stories are based on truth, and only "dragons" breathed fire.

I've read "fire-breathing lion or something" about eight times and I still can't stop laughing. How someone like yourself, who is clearly of at least moderate intelligence, could believe that the absolute truth of Christianity is demonstrated by this bullshit is absolutely beyond me.

I don't see what that site's other articles have to do with the validity of the one I posted, nor do I see why you'd make the assumption that I follow everything it says as doctrine.

Just read the article you were talking about (the dinosaur one) and tbh the evidence from the Bible doesn't seem all that 'wacky' despite the conclusions the website draws from it.

Job 41:

19Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

20Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

21His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

I will have to look more into this

The page you linked to was a general overview, which in turn linked to the "scientific" section. If you would like to discuss a particular "proof" then please specify.

As for the assumption, if you wish to avoid your position being misinterpreted, I'd suggest writing up your own points instead of posting the (often embarrassingly poor) work of others.

Yeah maybe I should have just typed it up myself but I didn't think anyone would have a problem differentiating between what has Biblical evidence (as in, what quotes scripture) vs. the opinion of the website's creator(s).

And the evidence I was speaking of in my second reply is that for Leviathan being considered a "dragon." At the same time, many believe Leviathan is but a metaphor for those people in opposition of God (Jews at the time even came to see the name as synonymous with this) while others take her (in Enoch Leviathan is claimed to be a female) to be some representation of Satan.

So your argument is, fundamentally, the Bible talks about something that somewhat resembles a dragon, and there are extra-Biblical myths that deal with similar creatures, therefore Christianity is true?

I'm sleep deprived and irritable and quite aware of how obnoxious I'm being, but I just cannot comprehend how you can consider that website remotely valid.

What? I thought you were asking about the existence of dragons in terms of the Bible and that's exactly why I posted what I did.

As for the validity of the Bible itself, you find one thing you disagree with on that website and throw everything else it has backed up out the window?

What about this page? It presents statements commonly accepted as fact about the universe (as determined by science) and how they do not disprove anything said in the Bible (in fact, the site provides examples of where they are talked about).

And on top of that, the original page I linked to discusses both historical and textual evidence.

Mourning Air....I think you're absolutely lovely.  I really do.  I'm just fearing that you're taking this Christianity thing a bit far and grasping at straws here.  Every defense I've seen out of you has primarily been linking us to some other web page that describes the argument you're trying to make.  The end result is fire-breathing dragons and irrelevant mumbo-jumbo.

If you think Christianity is the best path for you, more power to you.  I'll never be one to talk someone out of their faith for the sake of personal satisfaction.

But...no one is expecting anyone to develop a comprehensive and infallible understanding of the Bible in less than a year.  Anyways, I realize this is unsolicited advice.  But this whole pile of nonsense was making me cringe a bit.

and lol, if you've already determined not to believe in God, please don't waste my time asking for evidence and then ignoring it.

I don't claim to have a "comprehensive and infallible understanding of the Bible," hence why I have posted to various websites that provide Biblical (textual) evidence since I am not at the point where I can pull a direct quote out of my memory alone.

On top of that, please don't act as if my knowledge of the Bible (and thus, Christianity) is limited simply because I only recently accepted God. That does not mean I have not read the Bible before. Also, my acceptance of God does not mean I have never looked to other religions or that I have not in the past relied on science for answers. In others words, don't patronize me.
