Just becaue they're white doesn't mean they're desireable.  If you want a group for whites, you'll want a group of members who aren't afraid to join such a group and don't think it to be racist.

Not sure how many you could attract to that group (as I'm sure you're right - the majority wouldn't be interested), but you'd probably get a decent enough number.  How many members does Springs' group have?

the reason whites wouldn't join is that they are already the majority on LW. each thread is by default a white place with maybe a few minority voices.

Even if it were, non-whites could still voice themselves, especially if they voice themselves in a very loud and noticeable way.  If keeping the discussion among whites and for whites only with no non-white mixed in this was your true interest, then such a group would be called for, as is the case of any non-white group.  It may not appear as necessary, but it works all the same.

Personally speaking, though, I'd ask why bother?
