Since when did standardized tests equate to being smart?

I have always been told that I was a very book-smart individual, like my dad. However, like him, I also lack a lot of common sense. Now, I don't feel that I'm that stupid, but I'm not a major genius nor intellectual. I think I'm average on common sense, and above average when it comes to book smarts.

I feel that booksmart people with no "common sense" are just mediocre people who focus on being intelligent, but because they are mediocre, they have to sacrifice in other areas, like social intelligence, common sense, and sports, and mechanical things, and language, and creativity. A normal mediocre person is able to be normal in all categories, a booksmart mediocre kid is sacrificing categories to allow a boostin a limited few. This is similar to being an idiot savant but not anywhere near as severe.

By the way that post is not related to you in any way, 2kewl, it's a broad generalization and I don't believe it applies to everyone in that situation. So don't get all offended and think I'm attacking you and start a big gay argument pls.

eh it depends what you consider 'smart'. there are many many different types of smart, book smart, street smart, socially smart and more, and to most people you only need to be smart on paper, to be generally considered 'smart'. that dodgy looking guy on the corner of the street who sells drugs is a type of smart, that kid who always gets the A+'s in every subject is a type of smart, and those people in the popular group at school who you make fun of but secretly wish to be like, are a type of smart, even if they fail everything at school. i think the question you asked, can be answered by everyone on this website, and everyone on this website can have the same answer. please make your question more defined. i don't really want to sit here and try to convince you of how smart i am, because there will always be someone who will try to prove they are better, so i will simply say that i was smart enough to pass Livewire's intellectual test.

Hmm. I'm not sure you can call Savant's Idiots... I think it would be wiser just to suggest that their inteligence has been 'specialized' into one or a few areas (often memory) But I do agree, a true intellectual should be a well-rounded individual.

While one can post a reply, would one? The replies, thus far, speak volumes.

I consider myself to be smart in "real life". I got a 31 on my ACT and I'm gonna be an engineer when I get in college next year.
31 on an ACT? thats nothing compared to my 2000 elo. check and mate, sucka.
I got a 2400 on the SAT (the second time, the first time I got a 2390). Standardized tests have nothing to do with someone's innate intelligence. to the OP: I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person, I'm sure there are plenty of people smarter than me out there. I got a 34 my my ACTs as a sophomore, and I'm hoping to do better this year as a junior. I've taken two (real) IQ tests in my life, and I scored a 139 and a 144. I think I'm doing just fine.
