Over the last couple of years of so I have had a passion for Napoleonic history. My book shelf is groaning under the pressure of books on the period. I have read over 100, much to my girl friends annoyance.

From this however I fail to draw any real conclusions. Napoleon the savior to Napoleon the devil to Napoleon the fraud.

The only conclusion I have drawn from this is that history is really just stories. It is almost impossible to draw honest conclusions about the motivation of people who died hundreds of hears ago.

Has anybody else read much about the period? Or have found the same problems when reading history.
