This won't help you in the least if you don't know the appropriate tones. Half of either language requires a proper pronunciation, which to me has been a fun learning experience. The Chinese often don't realize this tonal difference since it comes instinctively (much as if someone says Really now? or really now? in two different manners - just put up two distinct words like "mother" or an interrogative particle like yes or no - which is possible with Mandarin), but if a foreigner barges in and tries to say "fuck you" with a flat tone, they're going to get laughed out of a room.
