x64 normally has slightly (ever so slightly) less stable drivers.

Did you update XP to SP3?

Yeah, all my updates are current.  Except Windows Search 4.0.  It is useless.

Can you system restore?

I really should have mentioned that a while ago.

I hate system restore, but I work at a computer store, so if worst comes to worst I can Ghost it.

Well, I am sure it isn't a driver issue now.  I got it fixed and every game BUT Left 4 Dead works.  It might be the game.

umm maybe its your power consumption, maybe upgrade your PSU.

And when you updated the drivers you should have uninstalled the previous drivers first as several people have had this problem before.

I got a 9800gtx and its awesome, consumes less power and is slighty more powerful. maybe you can try getting a new card as that might be an issue as the new drivers might have damaged it
