im aware that they are different. but seeing as i cant breast feed, and i cant pump my milk due to being on high dosages of antibiotics, what else would i feed my baby, if formula could "kill" him.

Got what you meant then. Well... in the US, the FDA is actually rather very strict about foods and such. More strict than in China. But mistakes and stupid actions can cause great consequences. We don't always know what's in our food, which means we have to trust that the FDA and the companies are actually doing their jobs and keeping food clean from harmful shit that could potentially kill us.

Your son will be fine. Continue the formula - US formula contains TRACE amounts of melamine that won't harm the baby.
Formula in CHINA was lethally contaminated with melamine and cause a few infant deaths and hundreds of illnesses. But the ones in the US - so far - are safe.

The only thing I heard was that a long time ago Nestle sent minority countries formula to feed their babies with, and they didn't give them good water, so a lot of children died from drinking the formula because it had contaminated water in it. That's the last thing I heard about formula hurting babies, though.
