They've done this with e.coli, and probably several other microbial life forms. Not just adaptations, but also random mutations, both beneficial and detrimental. I'm pretty sure those are the two major aspects of evolution.
but its not really on a macrolevel. It hasn't been used with regards to evolution, its only been used with regards to genetics. You could argue that smaller celled organisms have this ability, larger ones do not.
