Hi, long time no see everyone, but I'm back after a hell load of computer and hosting troubles.

I noticed on my net ventures that there was a HUGE ammount of websites on designing a website, but most never actually cover the proper coding of a temple!!!

Its amazing how these site premote things like iframes and inefficiant practices.

I have therfor decided to do a whole site covering what this forum covers, as well as proper coding, and more.

The sit is EXTREMELY new and has NO content, but it has the structure there. I would love your advice on the design, content and more!

Please consider joining the site if you belive you can help otheres or get help from peiople. The forum is in desperate need of people. I would be honoured if any of you regulars could give me some advice or even join the site!

Thanks,

www.coding-online.net

(this is a new domain and some providers may not have the correct DNS infomation, please try www.davenweb.net if that fails)

Whats so bad, I am not exactly trying to poach members, Its a tech site and I need advice from the correct type of people, which is why i posted here not the web and development catagory.

My main quirie is if the site looks professional about such a serious issue, and if the navigation and design flows

Were allowed to 'share' our sites, after all our profiles jhave a website place, and how are we expected to talk about things like php, web design and more without website references.

I am a solid supporter of live wire, and have donated and provided free advertising for them on my sites

I like the idea. I agree, it is something very lacking on the net.

As for the site, I think the header is a little too big. I also find that the space to the right of the main logo looks a little too open and pointless to me. I know this is part of the fluidity of the site for smaller screen, but perhaps the logo could be less integrated with the bar below it and then allowed to centre or something...not sure. I also notice in the logo you have quite a list of languages there. Perhaps its would be best to split the site up by language...not sure. I guess the only other way is to split up by type of script (e.g. CMS, gallery...etc). Actually, while I think about it, could you loose 800 X 600 compatibility and move the adverts to the right of the logo? Would give a little more space for content, that’s al. and the content boxes you have (home Page and News at the moment) I think would look a little better if the boxes the titles were in were a little shorter

But, yeah, I think it’s a nice idea, good luck with this one, hope it works.

I will get the site, content all up and running and see where it goes from there,  if I don't get fastclick advertisements, I will probably remove advertisements all togeather.

By tonight I should have all the top links working. For now /topsites and /media will get you to the other sections

For a site promoting proper coding and markup, you sure do have a lot of errors on there.

html:

The thing I noticed about this site, and your last site for that matter, is the spelling and grammer mistakes. If you want the site to be a serious site you need to have no spelling or grammer mistakes.

Thats one of my big problems, although now its all built in frontpage its checked, also beware it will be EN-UK so colour is properly spelt, unlike color (although not in coding examples)

I am removing the 800x600 support like you suggested and will be adding more main banner links.

Also I need help, for some reason as soon as i add a doctype it messes up the header

the css was valid but scince checking I had to stick lots of stuff in there for speed. I will look into it

Ok, I just noticed your biggest mistake yet. you have hovers on some text to up the size....this is a big no. you never do a hover that makes the text take up more space as it makes the rest of the site material below that move around as you mouseover.

I have the home fully valit SHTML transitional now and most of the other areas of the site too, The forum is mosty valid html 4 transitional, exccept in some areas, but this is the forum template and not me, so i don't intend to tackel it yey.

Another area is the download section which the validator is messing up as its somehow analising the javascript and jusdging it as xhtml :O

Anyway, I may be sounding EXTREMELY stupid but what do you mean about the hovers? I don't have a clue what you mean although this may be as i amn tired - do yu mean the alt tags?

Overall I am extremely proud that I have got it all validated - well mostly. - just for spell checked content now :P

Only real problem witht he site is that in internet explorer it appears a little broken in the header area. Of course, if you use a browser that can actually do its job like FIREFOX!!!! then everything is fine (appart from the 2nd to last division)

Which reminds me I replaced as may of the tables with divisions as possible, - a lot clearer when coding by hand and lot less code to load

I removed the coppermine gallery as the main gallery page. I will ad somthing of my own invention there instead.

Finally, just the topsites remain to be done into the new format
