I also have a deaf brother.  Stem cell research could fix his ears, give him his life back.  He loves music, and he will never really know what his idols (Beatles) sound like.  If I could give him one thing, new ears would be that.  It is hard to be against something that could give him a second chance.

The pro-life position generally relies on saying all human life is sacred. Any definition of "human life" broad enough to include from the moment of conception onward has to cover a lot more ground than I think most pro-lifers intend.

The most obvious ones are that you cannot be for the death penalty, war, or pretty much any kind of violence, no matter the justification- you're already ignoring justification for abortion if you're firmly pro-life, you can't pick and choose.

But honestly, if you're saying that the death of a clump of maybe 12 human cells is equivalent to murdering a fully grown human being, then a guy masturbating is also equivalent. Cutting yourself on a knife or something becomes equivalent to accidently killing a fetus.

If you try to say that it's different because the fetus has potential future value, then you're making a totally different argument, and no longer saying that human life is intrinsically valuable. Granted, potential future value is a much better argument, though still flawed when it comes to the first couple months of pregnancy.

No rational argument will net you that abortion is always wrong from conception onwards. Not one. Not even if you make allowances for rape/life of mother/etc.
