Not the point, debates never really change the other person's opinion. It's just fun to back up your beliefs.

Anyway, I'm out. Later!

I don't understand how in one breath you can say how a fetus is ALIVE and HUMAN and A LIFE and show mangled body parts and then say "well, it's OK if the woman was raped"

I'm prochoice in any situation, but this seems really hypocritical.

What's even more hypocritical is that there have been many murders and abortion clinic bombings from the pro-life crowd.
Yay for life!

I'm pro choice, cause I think there should be a choice.
But I think it should be more harshly regualated.

Saying this I would never have an abortion unless   my life were in danger.

I think there should be a choice as well.

I agree it should be regulated. I think if people are going to get an abortion they should only be allowed to do it before the end of embryogenesis (approx 10 weeks). That should give a person more than enough time to figure out if they would like to terminate the pregnancy or not.

I agree.
I think that time you can get an abortion is far far too late in the UK.
It is 24 weeks!!!

I had my son at 23 (nearly 24 weeks), sadly he died but he was a real child. 10 perfect tows and fingers,  perfect body, eye lashes.
At that stage it really is murder.

Meh, just so you know, at eight weeks all major structures, including hands, feet, head, brain, and other organs are present. The fingers and toes have separated from each other, and some fingerprint formation can be seen from the beginning of the fetal stage.

Still a real child by your definition.

So yeah, it's the same at eight weeks :/

No it's 10 weeks. That's when embryogenesis ends. That's when all the major organs are being created.
That's when it's considered a fetus rather than an embryo. :\

Nope, eight weeks is the start of the fetal stage.

You have to remember, babies don't all develop at the same stage, but eight weeks is when this starts to usually happen. But, lets throw that aside, it's a useless and nearly irrelevant point for what I am about to state.

Ten weeks [or slightly earlier >.>] is when a baby is a "person" according to SugarSweet; therefore, even a ten week abortion is "murder" in her eyes.

No it's 10 weeks normally for human babies.

"Week 7 (43-49 days from fertilization)
The embryo measures 18 mm (3/4 inch) in length.
Nipples and hair follicles begin to form.
Location of the elbows and toes are visible.
Spontaneous limb movements may be detected by ultrasound.
All essential organs have at least begun formation."

Week 8 (7th week of development)
Embryo measures 30 mm (1.2 inches) in length.
Intestines rotate.
Facial features continue to develop.
the eyelids are more developed.
the external features of the ear begin to take their final shape.

Weeks 9 to 12 (8th to 11th week of development)
The fetus reaches a length of 8 cm (3.2 inches).
The head comprises nearly half of the fetus' size.
The face is well formed
The eyelids close and will not reopen until about the 28th week.
Tooth buds, which will form the baby teeth, appear.
The limbs are long and thin.
The fetus can make a fist with its fingers.
Genitals appear well differentiated.
Red blood cells are produced in the liver.

Interesting..

Week 23 (22nd week of development)
The fetus reaches a length of 28 cm (11.2 inches).
The fetus weighs about 725 g (1 lb 10 oz).
Eyebrows and eyelashes are well formed.
All of the eye components are developed.
The fetus has a hand and startle reflex.
Footprints and fingerprints continue forming.
Alveoli (air sacs) are forming in lungs.

And that is all which has happened after five weeks, not much, so I do not think it turned into a person there. Therefore, it was a person at least five weeks earlier, when previous transformations happened.

Well there you go. Embryogenesis ends approximately after 10 weeks of fertilization. Which is why after embryogenesis it's not called an embryo anymore. ;)

And at that point I think it should be too late to terminate the pregnancy.
Even 8 weeks is enough time to think about it to me, but there's no harm in adding the last 2 weeks of embryogenesis.

UCSF official study concludes that a fetus can officially feel pain and potentially have primitive 'thoughts' at the age of 25 weeks.

before this, no neurons have formed connections in the brain. the fetus cannot think, feel, or anything.
