ok so me and 3 other people are moving into an apartment for sophomore year instead of on campus housing. our parents are gonna be paying for it. one friend who i'll be living with just sent me a message on facebook asking if my parents could possibly "co sign because we'd probably need one." what does she mean?

A co signer is someone who agrees to pick up the payments when you don't pay. It basically gets put in their name, on their credit. Majority of people with little credit will need a co signer.

basically, it means your parents would be on the lease with you.What this does is increase the overall credit score of the application, making you more likely to get the apartment (this also works with loans). It's so the person who owns the apartment can say "well, if these kids can't pay the rent, at least they have someone with a stable credit history on the lease too, so I can go after them if there is back rent".

No, it means your parents pay when you and your friends don't.
My guess is that because there are people other than you involved that your parents probably don't trust (not for personal reasons), they might not co sign for y'all. But idk your parents, so who knows.
