No they exist, I can see them in the folders in question... and no I didn't get it off an ad, my computer suddenly just gave off this virus warning message and made me download this Personal Virus Protection thingy...

It would help if you told the name of the anti virus you downloaded, if it said to download it it is probably a rogue anti-virus and so will create more problems.

Only trust credible names and sources like Norton and Mcafee, if you're going to use anti-virus protection at all. Spybot and Ad-Aware work relatively well but most of these fail incredibly when it comes to actually getting rid of each and every virus on your computer. It's often because the viruses are running in the background and these software don't have enough rights to terminate and delete them.

You could individually try to find and delete them but the viruses could very easily populate themselves back up again when internet connection is available. But this would actually help a bit in the short-term. You can do this by making a note of where all the .dll extensions are and restarting your computer in safe mode so that you will be able to delete them.

You can also go Start -> Run -> "msconfig" and then disable some of the start-on-boot programs here. This will help greatly but never a permanent solution, once again. Running a registry cleaner will also help. You can do this by downloading CCleaner:

This will clean up your registry after you've manually gotten rid of the viruses on your computer so they don't repopulate themselves. The only permanent solution to fixing all your virus issues is actually just reformatting. If you're going to do this, make sure to back up. I converted to mac in 2005 having dealt with all these problems and I haven't had virus issues since, so maybe that's a solution too. :)
