At a young age I was diagnosed with ADHD inattentive.  Basically I zone out all the time.  I am really spacey and I seem out of it all the time.

I think that people with ADD are not really well understood by the medical world.  I think that this is just a personality trait rather than something that needs to be fixed.  Teachers did not know how to teach me as a child. I should not be drugged up with pills as a fix.   Our brains are not a simple chemical equation that can be balanced with a drug.  They are far more complicated than that.

I'm diagnosed with ADD. I don't think I really have it, I'm just really lazy and laid back all the time.

I agree.

I have recently been diagnosed with ADD, and apparently I'd had it all my life but my parents thought it was just my personality, so I never took any medication for it.

I'm not taking any for it now, either. I don't feel I need to.

I disagree - I have ADHD myself, and I can tell you that the primary difference between if I'm on my meds, and off, is that off my self-regulatory ability on my behavior goes out the window, no matter how hard I try. It's awful.

Now, I will say that ADHD is severely over-diagnosed, and of those that do actually have it, I'd guess many are on the wrong kind of medication. It took me many, many years to find my current medication - previous ones either worked poorly, or did not have the proper effect / side-effects.

I disagree. I have ADHD-inattentive, too but I don't see it as part of who I am. I see it as an affliction not a personality trait. When I'm on meds I'm not a lazy, disorganized, useless person. I don't feel so stupid because I don't make forgetful mistakes all the time and I don't have as much trouble learning or problem-solving.

I don't think the meds make me a different person. I think they allow me to perform to my full potential at school and work.

At the moment I'm on Strattera and it doesn't seem to be working yet but when I was on Ritalin I was so much more capable in so many different areas of life and that made me a more confident person.

I've lost that now but I'm trying to get it back.

I hope I don't offend you, but I think your outlook on your ADHD is exactly why you can't use your full potential. I have ADHD myself, and although I do find myself lazy and have a very hard time paying attention sometimes. I do have potential if I try hard enough. I think you need to stop relying on pills to solve your problems because you're basically saying that you're useless unless your drugged. That stuff does change your personality. I've been on many ADHD drugs as a child and have even hallucinated for days from it. I don't agree with the drugs because kids will think that they can't do anything right without it and I think that can affect self-esteem.

Hey, if I can do it, you can too. I think you're better then this.

People often talk about people with ADHD not knowing whats right from wrong.

But let me ask you this....

Who has the right to state what is right and wrong in the world?

Who says that 2+2 has to be 4?

People are quick to label themselves or other people for having some sort of "disorder" simply because they don't "fit in"

But fit into what exactly?

A world full of war, hatred, greed, selfishness & propaganda?

You zone out, because thats who you are, you daydream, because thats apart of you....

You're not hyperactive..... everybody else is lazy...

See where i'm going with this?

There is no right or wrong!

"Everything" means "nothing"..... because we all perceive things differently.

Your idea of a perfect world isnt the same as someone elses idea of a perfect world.

Technically, ADD doesn't exist. The DSM doesn't recognise it as existing anymore. ADHD, I think, it's mostly BS. I'm sure it exists, but not nearly the way people think it does.Quote: from 534534553453 at 8:23 am on June 25, 2009

I know plenty of people that have been diagnosed with it, and whether they're on or off medication, they're perfectly normal. Generally, their social intelligence is a bit low, but otherwise they're perfectly average.

Wow. You've obviously got no idea what you're talking about.
