I pulled it out of my laptop, thinking it was door hiding some plug-ins or jacks. (I was looking for a video input jack)

This is where it came from:


Anybody know what it is? I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 if that helps. It didn't do anything to my comp when I took it out. Right after I put it back in and went back to my comp I noticed that it was frozen, and then a couple seconds later it unfroze. idk if that was related or not.

It may be a removable hard drive. Not the main drive, but something like a backup drive. I'm sure they wouldn't make the main hard drive so easy to remove.

yeah, they usually do. it's not more than a panel held in by a screw that stops you from taking it out.

i lolled at this topic, yeah that is your hard drive, you should never even touch that with the computer plugged in let alone when it's on, you can seriously damage your computer and the hard drive.

most computers don't come with such a drive, i highly doubt it would be a backup drive. from the diagram it's a 60GB SATA drive which doesn't sound too bad for a laptop that's probably a few years old.

There is another panel on the bottom. It's held on by two screws and it's removable because there's a little place to pull it up.
But I'm not gonna see whats underneath. lol
