Why do you americans say that when you mean you don't care?

That means you DO care about something when you are trying to convew that you don't.

Surely, the correct term is "I couldn't care less"

So that you cannot possibly care less about a certain subject than you already do.

Forgive me if I am wrong or confused, but wtf.

No, it's "I couldn't care less" but people say "I could care less" no idea why. just like, "I could give a rats ass" is supposed to be "I COULDN'T". Not a lot of people say it correctly.
