Actually, I think a couple hundred years of selective breeding in chimpanzees would fairly easily get them to a level of being able to perform labor for humans. I feel like that would be a simpler solution.

If chimpanzee intelligence has as much variance as has been speculated I think that 20 or so generations of selecting for intelligence alone would probably bring about fairly significant change. I can't guarantee it but it's a lot more likely than finding aliens and bringing them to earth.

I don't agree with enslaving intelligent life to labor like that. Besides it would be risky. The race you select to enslave could have powerful alliances. Plus whose to say they would survive on our planet anyways?
