well fine, you're not selling you're just doing market research for a company. The point still stands that they know they are unsolicited phone calls and thus of no use to their wife/husband/parents, whatever.
The company clearly knows this which is why they don't let you tell them where you're caling from or they'd just hang up.

It's against our code of conduct to tell anyone apart from the respondant where we're calling from. We can tell them the market research company but like not that we're calling on behalf of like n power.

And it's all customers from the companies, so like we're not calling someone from british gas if we're doing n-power research... if that makes sense.

So it does kinda have a lot to do with them :P

well yeah, that's harsh and that's why I was calling it a shitty job, not to insult the people that are doing it.

but to get annoyed at the people who aren't that harsh but just don't want to do the research and know their spouses well enough to be able to say on their behalf that they don't want to do market research is a bit silly.

I can imagine it would be annoying, but all you can do is laugh. Just think how much your calls are annoying them. I don't think I'd ever have the patience to do that, I'd probably get sacked for having a go at them back.

 1) nobody asks for Mr _____ or Ms _____  
 2) Block Number on caller ID  
 3) you don't realize it, but most likely there is background noise from the work place and/or delay
