Getting back to self-hatred,it seems to me that this is not a characteristic of blacks in particular but rather a characteristic of Americans in general.
In fact I think a case could be made for saying that Americans lead the developed world in self- loathing
Consider --
The US leads the world in Obesity & substance abuse.That is a huge proportion of your population who are virtually self-destroying
The US has the highest rates of imprisonment in the developed world.Thats a vast number of people being judged by their fellows as being unworthy.
The Us sets impossible standards of beauty & body type on its women folk that condemn about 90% of women to feeling anxious about not measuring up,& to disliking at least a part of themselves.In fact I think it fair to say that Americans must hate their women to want to do this to them
Finally the perpetuation of the belief in the American Dream - that anybody can make it if they want to & are prepared to work hard enough.Well it was never true & is certainly the opposite of true today. Yet this myth condemns most of Americans who do not 'make it' to being regarded as failures,And it enables the whole society to look down on the greatest failures as being to blame for being lazy, thick, or trailer trash & all the other perjoratives thrown at these people to dismiss them from consideration
The American dream has a lot of self loathing to answer for.
Maybe all Americans are masochistic

Oh dear I've done it again.
I can't understand why I so often seem to make a comment which stops a thread dead in it's tracks.
Perhaps I'm just brilliant at summing things up so that nothing more needs to be said
