The appearance of being older is a lot about projecting confidence. If you can speak articulately and maintain good posture, many people will feel as if you are more in control, and thus assume you are more mature (or older) than if you were to shyly respond to inquiries. Of course your clothes play a part, but it seems you have that aspect down. Wear conservative clothing for a job. I was shy, once upon a time, too. I don't think it's a fault, I think it just means you may be more observant (a better listener) than most people. Unfortunately, the world of work is a whole different playing field.
